Musa Basjoo in Pots when to bring indoors

Post by Sat »

All of my musa basjoo are in pots and still outdoors at present as temp still good at 17day / 11 night.

When do I need to take them indoors (Unheated Garage)?

Will they still be ok for a few more weeks outside providing day temps still around 10 - 15c?

I brought mine into the conservatory.

Did it early as hoping they will keep growing while its still warm.

Why would you bring basjoo indoors unless a harsh frost is forecast?

Ok, so is it ok for musa to be outside even at 5c night time temp?

The only thing to worry about is the starting of harsh frost?

So I can keep them outside till at least november? or when a real hard frost is predicted?

They are root hardy to -20C if mulched well
pseudotem hardy to -6C
and leaf hardy to -1C

I suppose what I was eluding to is, I'm not sure what advantage there is in keeping on a pot, as will get far too tall, to go inside.

Is the musa basjoo in pots 3ft tall ok with all the heavy rain we getting in October ? Temp still 11-14 c day and 10 night?

Too much rain won't make them rot ?

Thanks Dave!

Would we ever get -20

Mine has performed not as expected so a new one in the spring. I am not going to do anything but mulch, see how it does.
