Is it possible to force a Basjoo to pup
Is it possible to force a Basjoo to pup
I've a couple of reasonable sized ones I am overwintering indoors but could really do with half a dozen. is it possible to force them to pup at this early stage. I remember someone beating up an Ensete, is there a similar technique with Basjoo?
Re: Is it possible to force a Basjoo to pup
I have not tried the threatening with violence approach
You'll find that if planted in the garden, or indeed a wider pot, they will have a better root-run and will produce new growth readily.
Each year I thin mine out as needed. Pot them, give them away or cut and throw them away if nobody wants them.

Yes, very possible although factoring in the faff of packing and the cost of postage may not be a viable prospect.
Anyway, just to show how they will 'pup' even when small - here's one I prepared earlier, today in fact.
This 'pup' was removed from the mother plant late last year and planted in another spot. Now around 30 inches, it has 2 new 'pups' showing.
