Another Banana ID Request Please
Another Banana ID Request Please
Hi folks,
Can anyone here ID this banana for us. It was helpfully labelled 'Banana' at Crews Hill, whch, although it's technically correct, it isn't helpful to those of us who prefer a vowel heavy Latin name.
This isn't a quiz. I don't know the answer so if no-one knows we will all be frustrated. Likewise, if you come up with the goods I can offer no prize or renumeration beyond encouraging you to enjoy to the full that feeling of self satisfied smugness that you get when you're the first to metaphorically elbow your way through all the other chancers to the front of the online crowd to declare the truth in your loudest possible typing with your hands on your hips.
Thankyou very much

It looks like a Cavendish to me, but I'm sure mush will be able to identify it straight away for you.

Looks like musella lasiocarpa (golden lotus banana)

i was going to post the same question, i bought the same one from there a couple of weeks back. i thought it was musella lasiocarpa, but after potting it on a couple of days ago i woke up to find all the leaf stems had collapsed no damage whatsoever to the leaves. it wasn't overwatered or underwatered....
what the hell has happened?
cheers

I'm not fully conversent with plant disorders, but it looks like a case of 'plant sadness' to me. It wasn't one of twins that you seperated by any chance? Or maybe left all it's friends behind possibly....
I'll get me coat.....
On a more serious note, parts of our garden look *exactly* the same as your photo, pots of stuff everywhere. We picked up 2 of those massively flowered Hibiscus for £4 each - bargain

Re: Another Banana ID Request Please
I would agree with Steve definately a Lasciocarpa, which for me is the slowest growing banana plant i have.
Bev my instant reaction would have been lack of water however i have seen similar with a waterlogged site (not enough drainage) and also where there was a sudden change in temperature. I recall taking a Siam ruby outside and overnight the temperature dropped significantly and it ended up looking like that for a while. It perked up eventually though.

Musella lasiocarpa for me as well. leaf shape is wrong for Cavendish. Lee. your's looks like it has been grown warm and dark, so is very stretched and then you have exposed it to air movement and the petioles have collapsed. Happens like that with Ensete if grown in poor light.
Best regards
Dave

I saw these in there last week and had to look twice, they are very, very stretched Mussella , they did have some nice Cavs in there too

Thanks everyone.
By committee decision it will be a musella lasiocarpa (golden lotus banana).
