I have not yet got round to learning much about the Dicksonia antarctica tree ferns, but my parents have a spot in their garden where one would look perfect and am thinking about getting them one as an anniversary present.
The only thing is that it is in full sun. Most sources seem to suggest that they will grow fine in full sun in the UK (as our 'sun' is not that strong), so long as they are kept well watered.
What is the advice from you guys .... as it is generally right?!!!
New to Dicksonia antarctica - some advice please.
Re: New to Dicksonia antarctica - some advice please.
They are fine in full sun but will need copious amounts of water to thrive. But its easy to do just a large watering can of water each day if we ever get a warm/hot dry spell again.
Most wanted list - Any Young Trachycarpus and/or fern.

Thanks - do I water the crown or the base?
Re: New to Dicksonia antarctica - some advice please.
Water it all crown trunk and base. Never leave the crown to dry out for days on end though. They are easy to look after, plenty of water spring to autumn and wrap in lots of fleece if winter temps get below -6c especially if its cold for long periods.
