Where did you manage to get hold of a small one Tom?Tom2006 wrote:Yes a superb fern! Mine is still very small but growing nicely
Re: Losophoria quadripinnata
A very generous person from a garden forum. I was very lucky. If I can get mine to really get growing I will be able to do the same.

Re: Losophoria quadripinnata
I've just bought a decent size one from one of my suppliers, have they any special requirements apart from being kept in the shade?. karl.
Re: Losophoria quadripinnata
No not really. I have mine in decent soil, quite rich, shady and moist. They do like a heavy mulch late autumn and if we get stupidly cold I would try to cover it with a cheap quilt or something similar.

Losophoria quadripinnata will perform better for you if you dont keep it in the shade, it likes full sun best..

Same here. I read that they don't trunk very well in our fair country or arr very very slow to do so. Hence i think i'd rather buy another Dicksonia antarctica and they are apparently related anyway.greendragon wrote:The price is all that puts me off.

Re: Losophoria quadripinnata
I got a 15L one from this year's Gardeners' World Live for £35. It was from the Bentley Ferns stand. Their website sells the same size at £45. They might be displaying at show near you throughout the year.

Green, it didn't arrive i picked it up the same day!! its been in the ground 2wks on sunday & i must admit i'm chuffed with it. The silver colouring on the underside looks stunning & when it gets 6/7ft tall it will look great i imagine.I'm off on my hol's tommorow afternoon so i hope to see some progress on return. karl.
