Hi there,
I have just received my Phoenix acaulis in PB95 bag. ( 1.5L Raspberry soda for scale )
The nursery owner told me it was grown from seed and is 8-years old.
This is a new Palm for me, and is not sold in the South Island of New Zealand, and is very hard to get in the North Island where i got it from.
Has this Palm got the cold hardiness of Phoenix canariensis ? - Any experience anyone ?
Phoenix acaulis - NEW PALM !
Re: Phoenix acaulis - NEW PALM !
That's a nice example of a Phoenix that is not the prettiest member of the family. Perhaps an ugly duckling to a roebellinii without the trunk.
As they don't form much of a stem and have a tendency to sucker, it would always have an untidy habit. The plus is they will take light frosts.
I suspect there may be some hybridising with yours, Rod, as the leaves seem a little stiffer than the type. No bad thing as it is probably a little more frost hardy and is more likely to keep it's looks

Thats a real beauty Rod,
I hope it stays (apart from growing) just as beautiful.

As far as I know they will need protection, at least here they would.Has this Palm got the cold hardiness of Phoenix canariensis
