Has anyone grown a Coryota (fishtail palm) ??

Are they fast growers and how hardy

I grew from seed a few years ago and as such, seedling growth is not particulary fast. it was just forming a true leaf after about 3 years but succumbed to 5c temperatures. Admittedly, I think I kept the compost too wet so not really comparable to a mature plant for growth rate and hardiness

Ok i got som seeds from Copenhagen botanic garden and they germanated in just 8 days.
But a true leaf in 3 years thats a long time

My growing temperatures for palm seeds aren't particularly high, low to mid twenties, so that could be why. I can't sustain anything higher so I keep within a range that I know won't break the bank in heating costs.
8 day germination is very good, I had c. mitis in 10 days and urens in 14, though these were more sporadic

I tried one of the Caryota 'Himalaya' outside a few years back, it survived about 3 or 4 winters but hardly grew, pushing out just one (albeit impressive) frond a year. Then came those cold winters & -2.5C saw it off... icon_thumbdown
