Canary Island Date Palm

Post by Caprier »

Can some kind soul clear up a mystery for me, please? I've noticed that whenever one of these is referred to, the name is followed by _Phoenix canariensis_CIDP. Why?? Isn't that just an acronym for what's already written?
Looking forward to being able to sleep at night once again

Rather than type the full name, we tend to abbreviate things.
Being on a well visited public forum, Dave has set it up so the full name gets put in, so when someone searches for info about phoenix canariensis, there is no confusion

Thanks, flounder :) Thought it might be more complicated than that as the others aren't similarly honoured icon_scratch

There are other plants that have been given the same treatment. Trying to mention a well known curly haired presenter of gardeners world gives interesting results!
It is all down to searchability though

Have mercy! Haven't seen GW for years :( although, in theory, I could hijack my Mum's UK TV from time to time :D
Still, trying out a few old names will keep me off the streets this afternoon, cheers flounder icon_salut
