Trachycarpus 1, my oldest planted Trachycarpus 360*
Trachycarpus 2 easy tropicals horizontal
Trachycarpus 3 won on ebay horizontal
Is it something to do with the waggy mix, or where they originate from
Trachycarpus fortunei, horizontal VS 360 degree leaves
Re: Trachycarpus fortunei, horizontal VS 360 degree leaves
Natural variation possibly. My fortunei grew 'horizontal' fronds til the end of 2011 then last year started growing fronds that went three quarters round.
Re: Trachycarpus fortunei, horizontal VS 360 degree leaves
Maybe age-related, since your 180° ones are younger, and Jezza's is changing as it grows
Re: Trachycarpus fortunei, horizontal VS 360 degree leaves
Mine got to two clear feet of trunk by the end of 2011 and then last year it grew 6 inches in trunk height, the first time it's put on that much growth.

Re: Trachycarpus fortunei, horizontal VS 360 degree leaves
It is not age related in my experience, and it terms of named variants, Winsan seem to come out with 360 degree leaves.
Here are two topics on the subject
Here is my Winsan-ish 'Pebbles Trachycarpus'

Re: Trachycarpus fortunei, horizontal VS 360 degree leaves
So is Winsan another type of Trachycarpus like Fortunei and Wagnerianus,
or is it another variant of Fortunei
Where does Tesan come into it all
Has anyone created a Trachycarpus "family tree" showing the main plant, sub plants, and varients etc? Would be a great chart

No-one knows if it is a distinct variant, or some sort of hybrid. The way Garry describes the speed of growth it does sound a bit hybridish.cordyman wrote:So is Winsan another type of Trachycarpus like Fortunei and Wagnerianus,

Here's a starter, if anyone wants to expand on it:cordyman wrote:Has anyone created a Trachycarpus "family tree" showing the main plant, sub plants, and varients etc? Would be a great chart
