Hi All,
just seen this in B&M (along with dead P canariensis) is it worth £30 at about 3-4 ft and more importantly will it last?
Washintonia filifera worth a punt
Re: Washintonia filifera worth a punt
Not worth £30 in my opinion. That's a seedling should be about £10.
Re: Washintonia filifera worth a punt
a seedling at 3-4 foot? why don't my seedlings grow to that size!
Re: Washintonia filifera worth a punt
They're not exactly rare so I'd say overpriced.....especially as it'll be undercover for 8 months of the year. They don't like our wet
Re: Washintonia filifera worth a punt
I bought bogof washintonia robustia off garden bargains last summer, who I believe are part of the same company as b&m.
I'm sure I paid £30 for the two.... over wintered in our greenhouse....I'd check out garden bargains website - some okay offers on there last summer....

A similar one died in my garden with no protection after a mild frost, maybe minus 2-3. The combination of cold and damp is too much for them.chrismc wrote:and more importantly will it last?
Check out Dave Brown's hardiness figures for W. robusta, here: http://www.hardytropicals.co.uk/forum/v ... 14&t=12913 ; in my experience the figures for W. filifera are similar.
