I everyone i was over in California 3 weeks ago visiting my palm society friends and took some video of one of my favorite palm species Rhopalostylis

Chatham islands ( oceana ) my palm is grown from seed off this monster ! :D

Wow! that is an impressive Nikau-ceana. Mine is about 15 years old now, and still to form a trunk :ahhh!:

Oh.... to live 1 or maybe 2 thousand miles closer to the equator :roll:

Yes Dave & Greville i agree she sure is a looker !

Both these palms are within a bulls roar of the ocean and temps are usually winter 16 -24 c summer 20 - 26 C never really hot or cold ,the sea fog or june gloom as the Californians call it add to the humidity .

Been a tough 5 years since it was frosted back to trunk level, but finally getting there icon_thumright

Your Chatham Nikau is looking really good again Dave , hard to get a sense of scale but the Washingtonia trunk gives it away !

Mine is still chugging away and slowly pushed 15 cm of new spear growth over the winter .
