Several of my C. Radicalis have put up flowers this autumn. Are the seeds easily collected? Are they the small 'olive' like bits on the stalk,and when do I collect them? How viable are they for germinating?

The answers are: when the berries are ripe; and yes they are viable.

Best to read through this topic for how mine did, but I've only had one lot of viable seed as the palms are tropical and have no set flowering period. Most of mine have flowered in late summer/autumn and the tiny immature berries have not survived the winter.

If they are green now they will not ripen this year so you will need to protect the stems and berries from harsh frost and being battered by high winds.

Thanks Dave - knew I had seen that thread somewhere before. However, I have a few green berries so probably won't bother .... they will be difficult to protect and the end probably won't justify the means. My radicalis are a happy little bunch though so will definitely keep an eye out for some more flowering in the future ... hopefully at a better time of year!!

So how do I know when the are ripe - they turn red?
