About time - Our local council, as well as developers & designers are finally using Palms in their designs :D :D :D
Butias are popping up around Christchurch in selected areas. The row of five plants were planted 2-months ago, and the lone one was planted about two years ago.
These are all locally grown plants and not bought down from the north island, so they do not need to acclimatise.

Nice palms there Rod.

Shame our useless councils can't do something like that here in Southampton? :( :( :(

Butia is perfectly hardy here in Southampton and there are a few large specimens scattered about in private gardens inc mine. :D

It seems to be a mighty effort for anyone to even plant any palms here which is a shame as Southampton is a good place to grow at least 6 hardy species. :( :(

Still I suppose I can keep dreaming that one day I will see aveneus of hardy palms in Southampton........ :)

Very nice indeed. Does anyone have an idea of what sort of age those would be?

Mine stands about 6ft tall and (I think) is about 8 years old so I am wondering how long mine will take to get to that sort of size.
