A Christmas miracle! Jubea Chilensis germination.

Post by doncasterpalmguy123 »

Woohoo. Couldn't have asked for a nicer christmas surprise. One of my five Jubea Chilensis (Chilean wine palm) seeds have germinated. Ive had them all in the under stairs cupboard where temps of 30-35C can be achieved. The one that has germinated has a tiny stump, almost pink root coming from it. I just hope i can get one or two more germinated.

I am so glad because I'm aware they are incredibly hard to germinate taking between 3 and 18 months for germination to occur. For this individual its been two months! When it gets some leaf growth i shall remove it from the dark under stairs cupboard and keep it in a heated well lit area. Wish me luck and watch this space to see updates and if any of its siblings germinate!

Congratulations on your new baby DP. Always a joy to see new seeds germinate, and good luck with the other four. Hopefully it won't be too long before it has company icon_thumleft

Thanks for the replies :-) I feel quite blessed to have one germinate I suppose but I would like at least one more to germinate. At least you haven't given up Kris, plus you've got your massive one. I love that video!

Perhaps you should name it after one of Santa's reindeers.Considering how long they take to grow, maybe not 'dasher' :)

It would be nice to see a progress pic. every now and again.
