Germinating fresh Trachycarpus seeds

Post by benbaron »

Hi all,

Ive just harvested some seeds from one of my Trachys, they are still green - should I dry them out before I do anything with them or just go direct and bung em in the propagator?

cheers

Bit early to harvest, Mine are taken (when I do it) around March to May

Don't put them in a prop, or if warm enough will send them dormant. These are temperate trees so a normal room temp will be fine and like to be cooler at night. Failing that chuck 'em on the ground where it stays damp  Those that germinate and survive the first winter are the tough ones icon_thumright

The seeds should be purple/black before you pick them later in the year.

GoodLuck.

That's if the starlings don't get to them first!
