Good morning.
I have a few year old Washingtonia robustas and trachycarpus that I have grown from seed. I've just ordered some deep square pots from hardy palms uk and would like to get the soil mix right when repotting them. What would you suggest?
Many thanks
Steve

Young Robusta and Trachycarpus potting mix
Hi, Steve. I have used both standard multi-purpose compost and John Innes for all my palms including the two you describe. With John Innes there is a slightly longer wait before feeding. However, always include perlite in the mix whichever you use.
I learnt some years ago from the Palm Centre that using the larger graded Perlag if you can get it is even better.
