Sounds like we need to source a supply of germinated coconuts before the shade house merchants get hold of them. They might be much tougher then

Worth a try, but I wouldnt expect too much. It may be possible to get suitable coconuts from an asian grocer, the ones in Tesco etc have been processed for sale.

I have germinated a coconut from Tesco . The strange thing is it germinated within 7 days, which is very fast for a coconut, so maybe taking the husk off can aid germination? Sadly it is not alive now, I decided it was warm enough to switch the heating mat off, but the sprout soon went brown and rotted And there is nothing worse than the smell of a rotting coconut !
