jubaea x butia seed has germinated!

Post by banton »

Hello, my jubaea x butia seed has just germinated, it is still in a small inclosed pot with a mixture of 50/50 perlite and vermiculite, the seed is half sunk in the mixture with the dotted part of seed faceing up, that's were it has sprouted, the question is what is the best method of potting it up, do i cover the the whole seed in a pot? do i use sterile compost? do i still give it heat? it would be grateful if you can give me advice thanks.

Hi Banton, Well done there icon_thumright

I can't answer specifically for Jubea x Butia seedlings, but I would plant into a well drained mp compost with added perlite and cover the seed to it's own depth. Keep the chitted seed in the prop until the leaf spike appears. Then gradually harden the palm off to cooler temps
Best regards
Dave

hopefully you can get it to the next stage, its tricky when they are this small. It does respond really well to fertiliser and palm booster, it must be the jubaea side of the plant. It looks better than butiaXjubaea IMO. Don't kill it
