Beer drinking palms?!?

Post by weve »

Hi
Has anybody else come across this? Suggests diluted beer makes a good palm feed

it does work, i use on my fruit trees up the allotment, there is a chemical derivative in beer that is the same that makes willow re root. It begins with the letter "A" but its name escapes me at this time of night.

You read a lot about old wives tales etc in gardening but from personal experince it does work.

Can anyone one enlighten me as to what the natural chemcial is? i will remember tomorrow i hope. lol.

I have great results by drinking the beer while seated underneath the palms

I might give it a try next season. (Altho', I hope it doesn't lead to my palms falling over after a jolly good dose. Don't want a beligerent eight foot Trachycarpus smashing thru' my lounge window! :) )

MixieP: Can't think of any specific chemical names myself, but the general term for a plant hormone is "auxin". Don't know if you were thinking of that.

I seem to remember (from somewhere?) that hops contain a form of oestrogen (female hormone) that apparently affected female hop pickers of old. Don't know if this is what is supposed to affect plant growth or if its something totally different.

have fun

Its the worms you need to worry about, When their drunk they become anyones. Once a worm got so drunk it got off with a snail which then gave birth to a slug and the rest is history!

OK, tablet time!
