Just wondering what people do to protect their T Rexs'

Depending on size you can't really protect the whole plant so I just wrap fleece around the growth point which is the most susceptible part of the plant. :wink:

If you get prolonged freezes in might be worth protecting the whole stem. I lost the top 18" in the 2010 freeze. The base where woody was fine in -10C freeze. It's the non woody tops that will mush :wink:

still wondering how many years it takes for the growth to get fully ripe/woody?

I'm still trying to get the root cuttings I got to sprout..once I get them established I'll let everyone know how they do in a good Kentucky winter

are you sure?

my growth from last year still doesn't look like the oldest growth near the base.
the newer growth looks a little transparent and you can see lines and such in it but the oldest looks barky and not at all translusent.

i want to know how long until it looks like the oldest growth, proper trunky and barky.

Same as Dave although last years growth is only turning properly woody now.

my root cuttings took on to rotting icon_thumbdown I am acually pretty upset about it. I have some seed also but no idea how fresh it is..already in the prop so we will see how it goes

i should think this will need to be a pot plant for you bud, it isn't as hardy as fatsia
