I've got a new toy:

The idea is to switch the lightstrings with this controller, so I will not be suprised by any sudden freezes like last year. No worries when I leave for a weekend, when temps drop below 1C the lightstrings are on.

Re: tip: digital temp controller
A couple of points Eddie. They don't ship outside of UK, which might be a problem for you, and the switching current is only 5 amps @220V = 1100w so you will have to be careful how many light strings you operate.
Anyone thinking of using with a greenhouse heater, needs to consider carefully if the product is robust enough to handle it. From what I see a 2Kw heater will burn the thing out, unless it is switching a contactor circuit.

Good point, members should be aware of the maximum power the device can handle, for switching heaters a relay switch and additional wirng should be used.
I posted this because controllers like this were somewhat expensive, but are much more affordable today. For non-UK members: there are many e-bay sellers who sell this item and ship worlwide, getting one should not be a problem.

I got one of these http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/11096816 ... pla&crdt=0 for the shed along with a 400 watt frostguard heater, seemed to do the job nicely over the last weekend. The stat is apparently good to 3kw.
Re: tip: digital temp controller
Theres a thread on the EPS (http://www.palmsociety.org.uk/forum/top ... picid=6255) which mentions similiar temperature controllers (STC-1000) for palm protection.
The switching current is 10A. But im using this to control some 3 tubular heaters at 60W each.
Another link with good wiring diagram (http://www.ultimatereef.net/forums/show ... p?t=479021).
STC-1000 mounted, all wired up and working.
