Would unstuffed chimney pots work in the short term?

Post by ourarka » Fri Dec 07, 2012 10:23 pm

Last year I protected my basjoo pstems with chimney pots stuffed with straw, and it was very successful. As we are predicted a spell of chilly weather, how much protection would the chimney pots without the straw offer? Would this be sufficient for a short while as it would more easily allow me to uncover them again if milder weather comes in, rather than keep them cooped up for months on end?

Should work fairly well if you put a cover on top of the chimney, as long as the cold isn't brutal.

Good, that's what I was thinking. Doesn't look like we are going to get stupid cold down here just yet ....... probably be ok left uncovered ......but will pop the chimney pots over to be safe.

You could always drape the pots with blankets, or duvets in very cold weather. It will give extra protection

i would mulch up over the bottom of the pots to seal them to the ground and stuff in some fleece as a bung to trap the heat in also.
