I'm in Alicante (the weather is disappointing in case you're wondering whether to be jealous) and have taken a soft cutting from a Solandra tree growing in a public park. I've never heard of it being popular or successful in the UK the same way that brugs are, and the flowers are as beautiful, so I'm wondering if it's not vigorous enough, doesn't flower in our climate freely or doesn't take dormancy or hard pruning well?
Now that I've got a cutting and nothing to lose, I'll try it anyway.
can you grow solandra like a brug?
Re: can you grow solandra like a brug?
I've tried a couple of times with it, I'd say conservatory plant, a large conservatory plant! Can be hacked back when it takes over, cuttings root in a couple of days just in water so I'll be after a couple of bits off you when you've got it established

Cheers. I don't have a conservatory, so will hack it back and wrap the trunk or grow in a pot and overwinter in the shed.
