Is fantsipanensis hardy here? £35 plus pp seems a tad steep for a cutting but it is rare.Springy wrote:Fantsipanensis and taiwaniana on eBay at the moment!tropical Tom wrote:I've always wanted one but can never find one for sale anyone got any suggestions?
I bought my 4 hardy scheffies from dutchy and tuckermarshplant, latter has them in stock now.

Yes it is a bit steep but it depends on how desperate you want one!Blairs wrote:Is fantsipanensis hardy here? £35 plus pp seems a tad steep for a cutting but it is rare.Springy wrote:Fantsipanensis and taiwaniana on eBay at the moment!tropical Tom wrote:I've always wanted one but can never find one for sale anyone got any suggestions?

I got one last year from pan global plants and it was about a meter tall for £40!!! I already had 3 slightly smaller ones in the garden but couldn't resist it at that price!
Still potted and stood near the house but hope to plant it this year.
Great article by the way, thanks for posting!

Says it it over 3 metres in this PIC. Argyll gets over 1200mm of rain a year and can be mild, so I assume it is at home there.
Re: Hardy Schefflera article in The Guardian
Indeed...Spread the word. Perhaps stock will be available in more nurseries.
I bought mine from Dutchy Nurseries, Desert to Jungle and Lower Kenneggy.

Sorry I think I've hijacked this post I think the Schefflera i'm looking for is Schefflera macrophylla!
Re: Hardy Schefflera article in The Guardian
I was planning on buying one but it is apparently not as hardy as was thought:tropical Tom wrote:Sorry I think I've hijacked this post I think the Schefflera i'm looking for is Schefflera macrophylla!

This guy on ebay has sold macrophylla in the past (http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/maxcloudforest), perhaps Crug may also sell them?
Re: Hardy Schefflera article in The Guardian
Try Crug early in Spring and expect to pay big money for it, and it's not hardy. In fact it was a little naughty mentioning Macrophylla in a piece on hardy schefflera, interesting read though.tropical Tom wrote:Sorry I think I've hijacked this post I think the Schefflera i'm looking for is Schefflera macrophylla!
Re: Hardy Schefflera article in The Guardian
don't know why the TC companies are taking so long to get on the schefflera bandwagon

I put in a best offer for the fancy pants and got it. Will be interested to see it grows.

Re: Hardy Schefflera article in The Guardian
I like Schefflera arboricola, it's hardy here with smart placement but much less hardy than the ones mentioned in the article, so definitely a better choice being more challenging and rare
