Harts fern tongue bitten to pieces
Any suggestions as to what is causing this, I thought it might be snails or slugs but there is no sign of them and the compost is heavily treated with slug killer.
Re: Harts fern tongue bitten to pieces
Not sure, but that looks like damage prior to the full expansion of the frond(or leaf as not a divided type). As it reaches maturity the damage would look worse.

Not got that kind, its very nice but,
I had to set off my water feature around my Dicksonia due to eaten fronds. I believe it was white moths which were in my garden all summer.
No other explanation. Once the water was turned on, no more damage.

I would say it was caterpillar damage. I am still finding them on plants - one onside has been eating my Begonia luxurians till it caught it at night.
Re: Harts fern tongue bitten to pieces
It looks like a natural variant to the leaf to me.
Re: Harts fern tongue bitten to pieces
It could be Japenese Vine Weevil...or leaf cuter Insect.
