do a google search of Melcourt potting bark. It seems to be aimed at commercial growers, as haven't found it for sale online. The suppliers say use the enquiry form..... but I think that is what we need

Cheers for that Dave, a member on EPS suggested this:Moler/Terramol,Lapilo & Pumice are available from http://www.kaizenbonsai.com
It's mineral based so doesn't break down like a bark product so perhaps better long term?

Kris, on reading up on compost and soil structure there are some plants that don't like their roots to push past inorganic materials, so in these cases a bark is better than gravel of pumice.

I suspect Colocasia are one of these.

Missed this question before . . . but bonsai people use crushed volcanic lava for their preferred growing medium. Doubt you'll find anything more free-draining than that.

Kris,

I can't vouch for it yet, but I'm going to order a bag of this http://www.fertilefibre.com/shop/produc ... ucts_id=46 next time I put a Coir order in. It specifically states "potting mix" so I think it's worth a punt.
