Great pic. Is that a butia x jubea? It looks more like the BxJ rather than the JxB going off your older pics.

Ste, from research i've done that last pic is jubea x butia , as even with a hybrid the trunk gets very wide first & you will find when that palm pushes up another couple of feet the smooth typical jubea trunk will emerge. nigel may confirm this. karl.

Oh right, I just thought looking at the other pics the JxB had the smooth trunk whereas the BxJ looked more like butia - same looking trunk as normal butia

yep its jxb same size as Jubaea but groing like a rocket.

ive never looked at this on butias which is why i asked you.
i take it from your reaction,butias are induplicate too??
i honestly believed jubaeas were like an odd one out being this,so much more to learn.
is it mainly the phoenix then that have the V to collect water as opposed to the ^ to deflect it.
(this was the explanation given to me when i first noticed on my jubaea)

Sorry Darr only joking, phoenix has an unusual leaf arrangement for the palm world with its unusual inverted V. Maybe you are right and its an adaptation to collect water given that most grow in arid climates.

Did you manage to get a pic of your JxB Darren? Interested to see what a small one looks like.

i did just as it was getting dark. its quite a pale green but has grown a little this year after potting it up a bit.when i got it,was in the same pot but only half filled,all i did this year was lift it and fill the pot with fresh ji and a bit of grit

Barry when he sold his collection. i had a naggy at the same time .the naggy came from the palm centre ,the jubutia i cant remember. every possibilty you supplied it him??

Thanks for the photo Darren. Like kris says, how old is yours? How much further on is yours compared to if I order one from amulree which is just putting split leaves out now? A year or so?
