Optimal Temperature List for Exotics Growth?

Post by greendragon »

I wonder if any more expierienced members could replace the question marks with optimal temperatures for fast growth on the following plants;

Trachycarpus fortunei = ?
Chamaerops humilis = ?
Jubaea chilensis = ?
Butia capitata = ?
Brahea armata = ?
Phoenix canariensis = ?
Washingtonia robusta = ?
Sabal minor = ?
Rhapidophyllum hystrix = ?
-

Dicksonia Tree Ferns = ?
Cyathea Tree Ferns = ?

-

Cycas revoulta = ?
Dioone edule = ?

-

Musa Basjoo = ?
Ensete ventricosum maurelii = ?

-

Alocasia macrorrhiza = ?
Colocasia esculenta = ?
Cannas = ?
-

Add extra plants if you can think of any that would be interesting. I know that temperature is not the only factor effecting growth rate but it would be interesting to know what these plants prefer in an ideal situation.

They are the optimum, but even in their own environment they don't get optimum all the time.

Thanks for the quick reply, it's sad that our average temperature in June and July doesn't even give optimal Trachycarpus growth, judging from the ones in California you are right on that.

Dave how many flushes do Cycads have per year in optimal conditions?

Cycas revoluta the most I have heard of is 3 flushes a year. For me they are a flush every 2 years, so 6 times slower :roll:

Trachycarpus fortunei don't like it hot, so at 30C they may be no faster than 20C, and love monsoon summers :wink:
