Seed Pod Invasion!! What are These?
Seed Pod Invasion!! What are These?
My local area has had a ridiculous amount of these seed pod thingummies, so much so that it is like Atumn arrived early. I literally swept up half a bin bag full from my front yard this morning and they are everywhere. I went to the supermarket a mile away and walked over them all the way there as if they were a carpet.
Can anyone ID them and explain why there is an unsually high amount of them?

Re: Seed Pod Invasion!! What are These?
I'm not sure on their size from the picture but could it be silver birch seeds?!
Failing that, a tree that has catkins on it in your area?!

Wych Elm Ulmus glabra seeds. They ripen at this time of year.

They must be floating in on a warm breeze from somewhere because there are no local Elms in this area. Very odd.
Thanks for the ID

How big are they, I can not telll from the picture.
Look like Paulownia seeds, but the seed in the middle is rounder than paulownias that are longer.
It is possible to be from seeding UK paulownia tree?
seeds can travel long distances by air

Re: Seed Pod Invasion!! What are These?
It does look like Paulownia, but could be Lily perhaps? (although the ones I have seen are bigger than that, but the same "paper disc" with a seed at the centre)
