Pine Sleepers how much?

Post by Yorkshire Kris »

How much would you happily pay for a 250mm x 125mm x 2.4m new railway sleeper?

Thought they were only available 2nd hand, from when network rail replace old wooden sleepers with modern concrete ones? I doubt anyone makes new ones any more.

Apologies, omit the word "railway" and stick to just sleeper.

That seems a very good price.

I have seen them on special offer at my local wood mill for £23.99 reduced from £33.99. Delivery is only a tenner. Looks a good deal, I could try and get a further discount for bulk order.

Whilst you are on the subject of sleepers, I was wondering how long the pine sleepers would last being soft wood. I would like to build a raised bed on my top patio but wanted it to have a long life span. I plan to grow Cannas, Gingers and Bananas in the new raised bed and probably a tree fern  . I just don't want it to last a few years.

If they are treated I would imagine they would last 15 years plus? I'm hoping mine will last a life time.
