EUCALYPTUS pauciflora subsp. niphophila

I am looking for a tree/shrub that is 3m-6m tall and this is one I am considering.

the info on the height of this plant varies on every page I have read, anybody got real info?
also I don't want to get this tree if it will totally dry out the area.
I think somebody said eucalyptus totally suck up all the water but I wasn't sure if it would be true for this one.

Don't worry, not true. Like any tree it will have some drying effect, but it is less than e.g. willows do.

really that big?!!!

nowhere has said that big for this one. off the list then.

what about salix magnifica?

For me it topped out at around only 5M and died in the cold 2009, I loved it and have since planted another to replace it

Need to be managed, but coppicing or stooling works well, and once you have multiple stems they can be cut in succession keeping overall height under control.

I've grown E. niphophila from seed, and I love it too.

Yep. There's plenty around the country in that size range, though I'd guess it isn't likely to get over around 18m in cooler regions like Yorks. One in Ireland is 26m tall. One in Somerset also has a trunk over 80cm diameter. It isn't a small tree as often claimed.

Salix magnifica is a good choice; its limit is around 6 metres tall, and usually less, and has very nice foliage. Koelreuteria - attractive when in leaf, but it doesn't have a long season in leaf. If I recall rightly, the last one I saw was only just starting to leaf out in early June. It needs very hot summers to do well.

I quite fancied salix magnifica but it seems like it might be very hard to get hold of up here and I want more of a tree than a shrub.

what about roots on salix magnifica , invasive?

Should be easy enough by mail order.

Nothing to worry about. That's only a problem with large tree-size willows like Salix alba and Salix fragilis.

This behaves well for me by hard pruning the leading shoot every year. The bark is a real feature.

only seem to be two places online,
pan global that doesn't deliver and urban jungle that says 'nursery only' because of size.

also like the look of Cercis canadensis 'Forest Pansy' but I am worried it is too big
extra info on this plant please

I am also wondering if there are fancy/exotic types of lilac/ syringa
most notably looking for foliage that doesn't have the distinct look of common lilac foliage
