Re: Fatsia Polycarpa Giant Form
I am going to get one off him with a few other things in the new year. I think it will be the same as Crug farms plain Fatsia Polycarpa as I have seen a couple of mature ones with large leaves. I have lots of seedlings from one of their Polycarpas in 9cm pots so when I get one from Mark I will be able to compare. I know that the deep cut ones he is selling are the Needham form as I have already had one off him.
Re: Fatsia Polycarpa Giant Form
Not heard of it, though it makes sense to be more than one variety of F.polycarpa. F.japonica has 'giant' leaf varieties like Moseri after all.

50cm leaves does sound intriguing as F.polycarpa is probably my favourite plant.
Are you thinking of getting one Kenny? I am having a look at his site to see if I can make the £10 P&P work.

Its worth looking at his Scheffleras if you want to make an order up all the plants I have had from him have been in top condition.

not sure yet. things like leaf sizes are very variable on conditions ,like light ,branching etc.. wouldn't want another plain fatsia if it didn't really have stand out larger leaves.
Re: Fatsia Polycarpa Giant Form
I put in an order - I will take a picture of it next to the 'Needham form' to see if there is a difference. It says a 9cm pot, so it may be quite immature though.Mr List wrote: not sure yet. things like leaf sizes are very variable on conditions ,like light ,branching etc.. wouldn't want another plain fatsia if it didn't really have stand out larger leaves.
Re: Fatsia Polycarpa Giant Form
I've just bought some off of Mark..
Deep cut form Giant leaf form For those interested I also bought a Schefflera Delavayi and a small Schefflera Tawaniana (not on list but enquired about)
Schefflera Delavayi Schefflera Taiwaniana The Schefflera has the redest petioles I have come across.

Re: Fatsia Polycarpa Giant Form
that giant leaf form does look quite monstrous and odd there

Hi
Tried and failed to load photo so try this link

As mentioned this Fatsia was jokingly referred to as Megafatsia macrophylla
We know that it was collected on Taiwan and the only species recorded there is Fatsia polycarpa.
Some of Bleddyns collections (RWJ 10133)show larger leaves with an upright growth but none get close to the proportions of this plant
The leaves are also distinct in the grayish appearance due to the abundant white hairs on the upper surface.
I did wonder if this Fatsia was hybrid in origin but the offspring are remarkably constant in appearance which is not typical for F2.

do you ever sell bigger sized plants mark?
Re: Fatsia Polycarpa Giant Form
I send most plants out in 2 litre pots, typically 30 to 60cm tall.
Liners ie. 9cm square are also sent out and tend to travel well.
Just occasionally I send out 5l pots but this adds weight and bulk that costs a lot more particularly for EC customers.
Some plants do get potted on into larger sizes but these tend to be collected by visitors to the nursery.
