i have made some observations in my garden which i am curious as to whether they could be put to use in other ways.

this honeysuckle standard i am training has made much larger than usual leaves near the top, i assume because i have removed lower leaves.
maybe thinning a canopy of a plant by a third will encourage a larger set of leaves on a bush or shrub?

these silver leaved plants grow lovely big leaves when put in a shady place.
can this be used to turn any other sun loving silver plants into a big leaved shady plant?

@cordyman

the empty dog bit is how the garden looked in spring 2010
looking back now i can see how lots of things should have been done better but i still think it looks a lot better now.

rather than a designed garden,planned and thought out with a theme and hard landscaping i have gradually done it up bits at a time.
not ideal.

i painted straight onto brick and it took two coats.

@GB

i told you not to leave everything in the pots they came in from the garden centre.
i think we have the same hostas bought from B&Q so there is no excuse.
i potted them up with lots of water crystals.

It has certainly filled out a lot. You have done a lot of planting this year! Best bit for me is the Brugmansia area and the dark leaved canna.

Some great plants but in future though keep the camera horizontal and less shaky please! icon_thumleft

Gardens looking icon_thumleft Mr list, like your clever idea on top of fence with the succulents, good use of space and everything seems to be doing well. Are you not tempted to pull down dividing fence in your garden?, you don't seem to get full benefit of your garden looking from the window or near the door.

Don't think Steven Spielberg need be to worried at the moment, strange camera angles made me feel queasy :lol: :lol: , very nice view of flip flops though :lol:

loll , that stuff gets fixed post production icon_thumleft

been really ill lately and by the time i have this video finished it might be time for a new one :lol:

the middle fence makes the top part of the garden nice and private from the street and lets me create a layered garden.
plus is nicely segregates the part of the garden contaminated with knotweed (and now arrow bamboo) from the 'good' part.

@Kris
that canna has really impressed me this year and it is pegged as staying oudoors.
you got anytips on getting cannas through winters outside?

The live bamboo against the bamboo screening is my favourite part. That will look magnificent in a few years.

Some 'interesting' other videos you've uploaded. The poses one is literally you trying to think up poses.
