Now I was going to seed but it wasn't a good option with 2 kids so I took advantage of B&Q's bogof on turf and for £35 re-turfed. The part I haven't re-turfed is already at the correct level so I will wait for the old grass to grow through.

Unfortunately I'm not going to be buying much for the garden this year as we are just completing a two storey extension on the house so spare cash is being channeled into that for the time being. I'm sure I'll manage to sneak a few bits and bobs in though icon_thumright

Cheers Tom, it was a heavy day but I've had a heavy 4 months with the house. There were a few extra aches and pains though

Wow, that looks like a tough graft there Phil but it looks as if you've improved the lawn already.

You've obviously put plenty of work into your lawn transformation and when the grass grows through from the old lawn it will look even better. Garden looks right good.

I will have to improve my lawns drainage before I put a new one down, I just have not to the room for a bin so I will have to scale it down. :)

Thanks for the kind replies. The garden has a long way to go but it's still early in the year and I'm hoping the canna's I left out will Spring into life soon. Unfortunately I lost 4 out of 5 echiums and the one left is looking scruffy. I also lost 3 ensete maurelii and 1 ventricosum as a result of too much water too soon (I think). At least these won't be too expensive to replace and fortunately the 'Montbeliardii' looks to be ok.

I'm considering planting out my Buita, Jubaea and linearifolia as I haven't really got space indoors for overwintering next year. We shall see :D

My t-rex is looking a little ropey too so if anyone has any pups going spare send me a pm.

Cheers icon_thumleft

cracking job on the new grass laying!

did you put anything under the surface, or was it literally scrape up old stuff, stick down new stuff?

I visited Crug today with the intention of picking up a few bits, namely a couple of scheffies and an aralia. I took some (phone) pics so you can see how things are doing. Sorry about the quality.

Firstly the woodland garden

And on into the walled garden, no sign of their schefflera macrophylla unfortunately.
