Hi there Arlon, hardly get time to keep up to date with the forum let alone the blogs,but saw your post regarding allimac!!! Well bless my cotten socks, that as the one I grew from seed,so glad its OK if a bit slow. I find they can be a tad temperamental at the best of times too! I remember giving away about a dozen of these to forum members,wonder how many are still going! Can hardly believe yours survived such low temps and even more impressive,managed a pup the next year separately,fantastic! Nige

Hi Nige, glad you posted as couldn't for the life of me remember who i got it from. .... Its doing A1 now. It was all my fault anyway, not the plant, trying to get it do what i wanted instead of vice versa. Its got a tiny pup on it at the mo, which Sanatic has dabs on. Hopefully there'll be another one along soon so i have a spare for myself.
I got a feeling this plant is gonna do particularly well this year.

I have been thinking of ordering a couple of C Dealbata from MPS.

What are your plans for your new tree ferns? They look really good. Are they to go in to a fernery through summer and moved indoors for winter? top plants

Especially at night if you can under light the fronds.

I only wish i'd bought one years ago but kept putting it off. It must be quite a sight to walk under some trunked specimens and see the underside of those fronds

I try and put my potted 2ft C dealbata on a stand so I can see the undersides in summer.
A few years ago one the size of your C Dealbata would have been £250 thats if you could find one.

They are being grown in Europe now so they are getting cheaper.

I believe they where imported trunks, just rooted in Europe.

Parajubaea torallyi var. microcarpa

The Bolivian Mountain coconut. Apparently, the highest altitude growing palm in the world , between 2700m and 3400m.

I was recently gifted a potful of seedlings from a former member here on HT. From a plastic label i found snapped off in the pot, it seems this particular potful was sown at The Palm Center in June of 2008. Not unusual, as i believe, as they can take 5 or more years to germinate............



Pretty pointless leaving them in the same pot, so a good shake of the gritty compost and a wash in warm water , revealed some pretty impressive roots. A lot of the finer roots were unfortunately broken off, so time will tell how they fare.

Cut off coke bottles were the only thing deep enough i had to put them in ......................



and into a box to stop them falling over ..................



To give an idea of size, the strap leaves are approx 2ft above the top of compost, so quite a size. They'll stay undisturbed now for some months and hopefully some will survive the root disturbance etc and develop into some nice palms

A very interesting palm, I hope they do well for you.
