I don't think we will hit any records, as we have had these type of winters before, just not recently. It may be records for all the new amature weather stations, and there were none in 1991.

Records lows for the new younger generation that is. Those whom have not seen the cold winters from 20 years ago or earlier. Basically the last 10 years it was cold sometimes but no extreem situations.

With a weather warning of ice in Cornwall posted by the metoffice tonight, I thought surely not :ahhh!:
Checking the temperatures 'realtime' down there at 7:30pm and Culdrose was already at 3C and with the wind from the North / NE, it's not good and looks as if they'll get a repeat of last winter icon_thumbdown

Well in Cornwall I guess more then a few degrees subzero is not gonna happen. So no complaines there. Here they expect several nights with - 8 or lower. First they where talking about -10.

Alexander, Cornwall had some vicious frosts last winter, and 4C colder than here. One member, I think it was Ash, lives at the top of the cliffs on the south coast and got -9C less than 100m from the sea. The air was wafting off the land so no coastal benefit

That -9 must have been with snow and no wind I guess on a clear night. And probably a rocord there!
Minus 9 would be very cold here but far from a record...

I can tell you one thing,

You can expect snow as late as may.

My late hubby used to take notes of the weather and it just once did snow in may...sheesh.

We had snow here once in the back end of May.I used to crew for a mate who did kart racing & we went to place called Clay Pigeon raceway in Dorset one Spring bank holiday weekend & we had to clear 3" of snow off the track before racing could start, must've been spring 1974 or 75.

Well I guess some places there will get -15 and maybe even -20 in a frostpocket! A lot of snow, cold air from Russia and a clear night is all you need!

Well my idear that the UK was a kind of balmy subtropical palmgardens paradise is difenitely over now!

Here still a balmy -2...
