Literally hundreds of butterflies around at the moment. More butterflies than any other small creature at the moment. 100s of whites, Peacocks and loads of tortoisehells. Living closer to the countryside has made a big difference.

Thats when you need pictures!Yorkshire Kris wrote:26 Peacocks on one bush today.
I had three types of white all together on the buddleia today, went in to get the camera and of course they'd dispersed by the time I'd got back out!

I had camera in hand but didn't take a photo! Most were quite high up on a large buddleia

Saw this today, meadow brown? Lots of large and small white and too many peacocks to count!
Re: Butterfly Watch 2013
The butterfly in the picture is a female gatekeeper.[ Pyronia tithonus]cheshirepalms wrote:Saw this today, meadow brown? Lots of large and small white and too many peacocks to count!
The male is slightly smaller and darker with a sex brand on the fore wings.
The meadow brown is a larger and darker butterfly then the gatekeeper and is mainly found in long grass.

Not a butterfly but a moth. I found this elephant hawk moth in the garden.
