Grew up seeing loads of small tortoise about, not seen any for the last 3 or 4 years but seen a fair few this year

Thanks Conifers, we were looking for the rarer Lulworth Skipper (we were at Lulworth) but it was cloudy and windy so not much around.

I saw the first small tortishell butterfly that I have seen in Southampton over the last 10 years.

Could they be making a comeback?

I hope so.

Saw a red admiral yesterday enjoying the passion flower, I've killed loads of caterpillars that eating my mexican orange blossom from the inside out by sticking the new growth leaves together with silk.

Seen a Painted lady, loads of Ringlets, Meadow Browns, Speckled Woods. Tortoiseshells, whites, Commas this week.

Saw several Marbled Whites on a long hot walk today near Swanage, Meadow Browns and Speckled Wood as well.

Marbled whites are very few and far between in Yorkshire although can be seen in high numbers in selected spots.
