Marbled whites are very few and far between in Yorkshire although can be seen in high numbers in selected spots.
On the occasions that I have seen Marbled Whites there have been several in one small area, rarely individuals.
Commas and Coppers seem to be almost absent at the moment and very few Tortoiseshells .

The chalk escarpment above Swanage was alive with Butterflies today. Gate Keepers, Ringlets, Meadow browns, several Dark Green Fritillaries and dozens of Marbled Whites, strangely no Blues.

If I went on a walk from my house I could easily see 500 butterflies within an hour. (Most of these would be gatekeepers and Meadow browns)

I actually sat and took notice today. Red admiral, cabbage white, fritillary, tortoiseshell, a single comma and what looked like some sort of skipper. I think I'll do it again tomorrow for an hour.
I wonder if this weather holds, I'll get another sighting of a hummingbird hawk moth? I've a better camera now since last time(2003) with a faster shutter speed

Had a meadow brown in the garden. yes, I know, common old species but it's the first one I've seen for a while icon_thumleft
