White wonder

Post by kata »

An Image from when my son went to Las Vegas two years ago,

I named him 'White and beautiful' is what he is of course.

Mohan and the Rewa strain

Mohan was the founding father of the white tigers of Rewa. He was captured as a cub in 1951 by Maharaja of Rewa, whose hunting party in Bandhavgarh found a tigress with four 9-month-old cubs, one of which was white. All of them were shot except for the white cub. After shooting a white tiger in 1948 the Maharaja of Rewa had resolved to capture one, as his father had done in 1915, at his next opportunity. Water was used to lure the thirsty cub into a cage, after he returned to a kill made by his mother. The white cub mauled a man during the capture process and was clubbed on the head and knocked unconscious. He was not necessarily expected to wake up, and this was his second brush with death. He recovered though, and was housed in the unused palace at Govindgarh in the erstwhile harem courtyard. The Maharaja named him Mohan, which roughly translates as "Enchanter", one of the many names of the Hindu deity Krishna.

Its quite a story behind their existence,

My son may have more shots on the disc I need to ask him.

Yes when WWF get involved with extinction you can bet your last dollar its a very serious situation we have created, its not even ours to destroy.

We *have* to think about, and conserve our wildlife for out children and beyond even their generation, we know whats happening elsewhere in the world is just as urgent as anywhere..

Where my son holidayed in Vegas he stayed at the Grand and they say:
White Tiger Habitat is on of many attractions at The Mirage Hotel and Casino .
Enter this tropical atmosphere, surrounded by palm trees and lush foliage, and a different world that is exotic, enchanting and full of adventure lies before you. The exquisite animals enjoy relaxing in their environment, which was modeled after their natural habitats.

The open-air home of Siegfried & Roy's Royal White Tigers is available for public viewing throughout the day and evening. Siegfried & Roy have dedicated their lives to preserving these rare animals, and their efforts have helped save them from total extinction.
Tigers of the world:

Bengal tiger

Sumatran Tiger

Indochinese Tiger

Malayan Tiger

Siberian Tiger

South China Tiger.

And more beside those I seen at Wiki.

I do like the way the chinese monks look after their tigers, they are not afraid, they take them walks..awesome!

Looks more than a little overweight!

(a common problem with zoo tigers, they don't get enough exercise)

Your right Conifers, these animals should not be in zoos, they become frustrated. Probably what happened with the Tiger that killed the girl keeper.

If they escape people are scared to death so the poor animal gets shot.

Tigers etc need to hunt not get lumps of meat thrown at them.

A White Tiger in a Bali zoo has given birth to three babies...brilliant,

In captivity but hopefully in years to come they can be released back into the wild.

A lot of Orangutans have already been released to a safe area.
