Show us your grasshoppers.

Post by cheshirepalms »

Saw a lot of these in the long grass on the edge of the local playing fields. Heard one in the garden yesterday when I cut the grass and it jumped into the greenhouse, believe its a mottled grasshopper after some research, quite pleased it kept still for long enough to get a picture lol.

I have never seen or heard them up here in Scotland.

They remind me of my childhood in Plymouth :)

I used to catch them and put them in jamjars (and release them later).

Not too many up here either, only one or two species. But it's been a good summer for the few that there are.

Loads of grasshoppers down here. Funny thing is when you see something often enough, you seem to not see them....if you get my meaning

They are making a right racket in my garden. No crickets though.

Saw some more grasshoppers on the dogs walk today, getting quite fond of them. One was a light green and quite large, maybe 2 inches long, I caught it and it jumped onto my top. the picture is poor quality though, would love an ID, I think one of the other pictures is the same type.
