Re: Migrants on the move.
Not all, but a lot do. UK-breeding Starlings are mostly resident, but huge numbers of Starlings from NE Europe arrive in Britain to spend their winter here, before moving back in spring.kata wrote:Do starlings migrate Clive?
Re: Migrants on the move.
Scoters are not seen here very often and I have never seen one although I don't go sea watching much.
One of yesterdays Spotted Flys, I couldn't get near them unlike the ones in Morocco last Spring.

Re: Migrants on the move.
Thanks Clive!
Last year the skyline was crammed full of birds all going the same way so I thought they may have been Starlings.

Re: Migrants on the move.
Don't usually see Fieldfares here this early but there was a flock feeding on Rowan berries at Arne RSPB today.
Re: Migrants on the move.
A few Great Greys around but a Lesser! as you say well lost, should be a long gone by now.
Nice pics.

Re: Migrants on the move.
Still there today, and it should survive OK as local birders have been putting out mealworms, so no shortage of food for it. It's also been taking lots of dung flies (it's in a cattle field).
Re: Migrants on the move.
I imagine the cold(er) weather will force it South as it's more of a warm climate Shrike.
Re: Migrants on the move.
Time will tell! It was still there today, but yes, I'd not be surprised if it leaves tonight with the clear sky and cold.
Re: Migrants on the move.
I've seen a lot of photos of it on Birdguides so it must have attracted lots of attention, smart looking bird, I have only seen one once in Cyprus.
