Germany has since April 2013 a wild herd of European bisons in the Rothaar Mountains. Those majestic animals get more and more reintroduced in their former range!

The Rothaar Mountains are certainly not a primeval forest, far from that. Its also an experiment to see how these animals can live freely in a comercial cut forest.

Nice idea, but I wonder how long it will last? I guess until the bison realise that if they want to move around fast, there is no speed limit on the autobahn . . .

They group male has already been reported trying to mix seeds shall we say with local farmers cattle.
Plus they're only a small group so they're not truly wild as they are monitored by people and after one generation some will have to go or be added to keep fresh genes coming in, instead of them inbreeding. So they're not totally wild but it is good to know that some exist out of zoo's in western europe. the largest wild herd left is in russia and even that was man made as they was extinct from the wild (the last true wild one being shot in poland).

Well they are wild in the sence that they have been reintroduced. Like the Prizwalki horse in Mongolia. And they are still pure the wild species. The reintroduction in new areas of their former range is also a way to protect the species.
