and here's an easy way to grow them (instead of buying plug plants) .... just make sure that you buy a few organic sweet potatoes and (hopefully) they are/were not sprayed with chemicals when harvested:

Re: Anyone sown anything so far ?
I did grow them once, but they are a tropical version of Bell Bind ,so I had an urge to pull them out every time I saw the leaves. Now, if we could eat Bell Bind I'd be classed as a farmerDim wrote:and here's an easy way to grow them (instead of buying plug plants) .... just make sure that you buy a few organic sweet potatoes and (hopefully) they are/were not sprayed with chemicals when harvested:

here's a link to 2 places that supply unusual seeds/veg/flowers that I found on another forum and which is highly spoken of, and which are reasonably priced:
Pennards:

(some edible dahlias there)
and the other is Chase organic:

Can you put something akin to a Bell-cloche over it for the time being? If its really small a 2L Pop bottle with the bottom cut off (and the cap opened) would do perhaps?Dim wrote:it has not done much as is still the same size with the same amount of leaves on the plant
I've done that. Biggest problem I had was that the supermarket tubers took ages to sprout - I reckon they had been sprayed with a growth inhibitor. Easier in following years starting from your own, saved, tubers. Thus might be easiest to start with a bought-in plant that is already underway. Starting from a supermarket tuber probably best done in the middle of Winter to give it enough time to be ready for planting out in the Spring.Dim wrote:and here's an easy way to grow them (instead of buying plug plants)
