Its -3c still here in southampton but so far not as cold as last night,And I noticed some cloud building to the South West while on the way back from St Denys.

Hopefully it should start getting milder from tomorrow and I can check my plants for any damage.

Got to -10c at 1am and then the clouds rolled in and it started to rise. Now at +3c and the snow that is still on the ground is melting quite quickly.

On the bright side: beer will cool down quickly, the sort walk from the car to the house will probably be enough 8)

We may be out of the woods now, but will have to wait until April or May for the verdict on palm damage. I finally had a low of -7.2C on Fri/Sat and -6.2C last night, but the damage would have been done on Wed/Thurs with freezing winds. Although the temps only dropped to -2.2C the wind blasted it into everything :(

When the wind dropped it became much colder, but at least I was able to protect things. No chance of keeping fleece on large plants with 25mph gusts

Here Butia protected with 4m wide fleece

i have a Trachycarpus , waggy and cycas revoluta in three little square pots that were frozen totally solid.

they look ok atm so i hadn't worried about them until you mentioned they don't show damage till later.

No way of knowing unfortunately until summer gets going. It took until July last year for my trachies to show that they were definitely dead.
Most wanted list - Any Young Trachycarpus and/or fern.
