Feb wasn't tooooo bad. Two nights that were -10c to -12c, but otherwise it averaged -5c and day temps rose above freezing on all but one day.

Spotted today that the soil in my potted butia was frozen, hope it'll be ok.

You could have a record warm February except for those two nights of -10 & -12 & that's all it would take to damage/kill many plants without protection unfortunately :( Obviously it would be worse if they were frozen solid for days but damage would be done

I finally had a low of -7.2C on Fri/Sat and -6.2C last night, but the damage would have been done on Wed/Thurs with freezing winds. Although the temps only dropped to -2.2C the wind blasted it into everything :(
Thats way some palms show some brown leafes here already. During the coldest nights here the wind was still there with also very dry air (RV 25-40%). With some sunshine during the freezing days it's a concept to turn brown.

No the coldest start of February ever (Since 1901) if you see the records!

Definately colder than last Feb unless we get a few 20Cs now.

sounds like your weather was similar to mine jezza, i just got a lot of snow, and a few -6c's and lower. But daytime temps got above freezing apart from the one day which was -1c. Lowest temp -12c.

Only the weather gods know that, but the outlook is very springlike at the moment.

The men plan, and know what they have to do, then act when necessary. The boys hope.

Men or a boy, don't want to see a winter like this again. At least two weeks of freezing temperatures during night and day, broken several coldrecords as result. Garden doesn't look that bad at the moment but i'm still not celebrating anything before I had a week with +25C for a few days.

What I do know, if a winter like this going to happen again, I will dug up all my palms and move more south! I need just a bit more then one year and then I will be free to go anywhere.
