Already 3.8C here, if there isn't an airfrost tonight then radiation loss isn't working as it's meant to!

It looks like you'll get another air frost tonight Kris, I guess you're at around 2C at the moment!

Conifers, I cannot believe you got an ice day in early November.. I bet that does not happen very often!

Depends on how you define an ice day. Things thawed OK where they got direct sun, but in shade (north side of walls, trees, etc.), it stayed frozen. There was no wind at all to mix sun-warmed air into shaded areas.

well I assumed you meant the day was below 0C (air temperature).. if not then I suppose it does not count as an official 'ice day', more an 'icy day'

Yep Kris, there's a breeze here too, but it's actually making the situation worse, because it's blowing colder air in off an already cold northern England.

This year and 2010 are the only instances on my records, where an airmass that isn't below -5C in the upper atmosphere has featured near or below freezing temperatures despite a breeze.

It does make you think something has changed!

But it's also significant as an 'ice day' (even if unofficial) as tender plants (what this forum is all about icon_thumright ) remain frozen all day, which isn't good for them.

Just had the first frost last night, -1 early morning 4th Nov. Glad I sorted the heater for the greenhouse last week.
