The suns infrared output
The suns infrared output
I notice today that the sun feels much warmer than I can remember at this time of year. It genuinely does feel warm. Can the infrared output of the sun vary? Or is it constant? ( ie am I simply imagining the sun feels warmer than I previously remember ?
Re: The suns infrared output
Went on a 2 hour walk with the hoss this morning and was pretty warm in the sun. Not a patch on 2 week ago though when it was 12*c and sunny, as opposed to 1*c and sunny as it was today
So I think the overall daytime highs skewed my perception today!

Frost was still on the grass but the sun did feel warm.

I have been for a walk in Clumber Park today, one of the small lakes was completely iced over.

Doubt solar IR varies significantly. So much more depends on so many other factors, notably wind speed, but also thin high cloud, humidity, mental state of the observer, gumidity, alcohol consumption, ferrets, etc., etc., etc.stephenprudence wrote:I notice today that the sun feels much warmer than I can remember at this time of year. Re: The suns infrared output
I was inside the local hospice all day, as my mother in law is very near the end of her fight against cancer. The sun shone through the windows from about 8am, and the clarity of the atmosphere made it pleasantly warm, but when I came out briefly at lunchtime, looks were very deceptive, as it was freezing cold.
You can detect quite small changes in sunlight quality and strength, but mostly it is relative to the few days previously. For instance today it was still light (just) at 4pm where as it has been dark by 3:30pm for a few days.

Stephen I was outside in a T-shirt at lunchtime yesterday, around mid-day the sun did indeed feel unusually warm , but i think thats because their was no wind and we have warm air over us.
