After today's lunch I can feel that lovely, summery scent of skin that has received solar pleasure icon_sunny

Are you saying we actually got some D?

Wondered why I've been happy pushing plants around the patio.

I think one of the sources of the difference between the MetOffice and other sites is not how the UV index is measured but how it's rounded. UV index is a real number on a continuum, but most sites give it as an integer - 0, 1, 2, 3 etc. Some sites may round it down (so for example 2.6 will become 2) whereas other sites will round it to the nearest integer (making 2.6 show up as 3).

It's more than just vitamin D. If it was that simple, we could live in underground tunnels, pop vit D pills and be happy ;)

I wish the NHS subsidized therapeutic flights.

Sounds like a harsh life up there, with such a short tolerable season.

well it spikes quite quickly by June, and reached a maximum of UV6 and UV7.. then drops quickly again after mid-June.

Fortunately the climate is quite moderate here so it's never too uncomfortable.

It depends on how you define "harsh".

Personally I would find living in the over-crowded SE and London "harsh" and stifling.

Yes the climate here is in general nice for the area... alot of people think here is as cold as the rest of the north, but it's not at all, it's actually much warmer than surrounding areas, due to shelter, sandstone geology (warming the surface temperatures up in sunny weather), and rain significantly reduced by the shelter of the Welsh mountains.

For Britain the climate here is much better than the average member down south might presume and probably not that far from a southern climate.. the only difference really is a degree of temperature in the summer (though London of course is a few degrees), and more significantly sunshine hours, which are quite low here at an average of 1,500 hours. (though winter sunshine is often higher here than areas a little further south), and winter temperatures are fairly similar to the far south as a whole (not withstanding microclimates etc)

For me, however I would prefer something warmer, but nowhere in UK can provide my ideal climate scenario.
