Re: No end in sight.
All I can say is, if you are not one of the tiny % flooded, or living right on the coast, this has been an excellent winter for exotics, and may go some way to restoring the confidence lost in winter 2010/11.
Best regards
Dave

Oh yes Dave, it's been a great Winter for most of us on here, I haven't heard of one major weather related incident which is great, and we're definitely all geared up for Spring to show itself! Hopefully with warmth and sunshine!
Great photo there, Can't believe your nana is throwing out flower buds in February, I can't even get a Musa basjoo to survive without it rotting away in the ground!

I sometimes have to bite my tongue with the dramatic language you choose to use regarding the potential of cold but I appreciate your expert views regarding the weather. You got the storm warning spot on in my view.

Re: No end in sight.
doesn't work like that Cordy. The bud is made from bracts and a bract opens every few weeks when cool, to reveal the male flowers. The bananas were the female flowers and were out in July/Aug, since then only male flowers for the rest of it's lifecordyman wrote:Any guesses when your whoppers due to explode for the ladies Dave? I might be fed up with one storm after another but what other winter scenario has let me keep half my exotic plants outside rather than in
Re: No end in sight.
Wow! Can't believe you can grow bananas like that here!
Your garden must be so sheltered, how lovely to see it undamaged and flourishing! Beautiful!
Even my hardy shrubs are showing wind damage now, browning and shrivelled.
Not like your buds!!!! HAHAHAHA!

There are small signs of the jet firing back up again, hopefully this is wrong, and it won't happen, but still some awkward rainfall events to come. I'm still not convinced as such that it will calm down like said, and this potential re-firing up of the jet does not surprise me.. however it's doubtful we will get the level of storms we have been getting recently.
The real thing to concentrate on and keep an eye for, I feel, is the rain amounts.
